HI Chicago, The J. Ira and Nicki Harris Family Hostel hosts regular events for guests to enjoy and meet fellow travelers and learn more about the local communuity and culture. Here is a weekly snapshot of regularly scheduled events (subject to change):
Monday:
- Trivia Quiz & Game Night Welcome Party: Game on! Join us for a night of friendly competition with a round of trivia quiz questions followed by board games. Mingle with fellow travelers and learn more about Chicago! FREE drink tickets provided, as well as snacks and non-alcoholic options. All ages welcome, but if you plan to drink please bring a valid ID. Must be 21+ to drink alcohol.
- Karaoke Bar Outing: Join your fellow hostel guests as we head to a karaoke bar for a night of singing and dancing! Must be 21+.
Tuesday:
- Morning Conversations: Enjoy a FREE cold brew coffee in summer (and hot cocoa in winter) while hearing tips and recommendations from our local HI Chicago guide.
- Tour of Field Museum of Natural History: Join your fellow hostel guests on this private tour of can't-miss exhibits at the Field Museum with the purchase of your own ticket.
- Hyde Park & University of Chicago Tour: Explore historic cathedrals, libraries and the site of the first nuclear reactor in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood.
Wednesday:
- Downtown Chicago Walking Tour: See downtown Chicago from a local perspective and learn what makes our city so special!
- Brewery Tour: With over 160 breweries in the city, Chicago has been named the craft beer capital of the USA. Try local drinks and learn about the cafe-like atmosphere of breweries in Chicago. Must be 21+.
Thursday:
- Morning Yoga: Come rejuvenate your body and mind with an instructor-led yoga class! Mats provided, and ALL levels welcome.
- Morning Conversations: Enjoy a FREE cold brew coffee in summer (and hot cocoa in winter) while hearing tips and recommendations from our local HI Chicago guide.
- Lincoln Park Tour: Learn the history of and explore the beautiful gardens of Lincoln Park and its free zoo, while meeting fellow travelers and exploring one of Chicago's many neighborhoods!
Friday:
- Art Institute Tour, Art & Architecture: Join this two-part tour of architecture and art in Chicago! First, guests will learn about architecture and art on a walk to the Art Institute (AIC), and then guests have the option to continue inside the AIC for a private HI Chicago tour of can't-miss exhibits.
- Welcome Party: Join us at our weekly welcome party! We feature different themes like Chicago-style hot dog nights, holiday celebrations, heritage events and more! We'll have free drinks and snacks, and it's a great opportunity to make friends with your fellow travelers!
Saturday:
- Morning Yoga: Come rejuvenate your body and mind with an instructor-led yoga class! Mats provided, and ALL levels welcome.
- Chicago History Museum Tour: Learn about the innovations and events that made Chicago what it is today! The four registered guests get FREE admission and any additional guests must purchase their own ticket. This local gem is located right at the edge of the gorgeous Lincoln Park.
- Downtown Chicago Walking Tour: See downtown Chicago from a local perspective and learn what makes our city so special!
Sunday:
- Downtown Chicago Walking Tour: See downtown Chicago from a local perspective and learn what makes our city so special!
- Art Institute Tour, Art & Music: Join your local HI Chicago guide on a scenic walk to the museum, discussing the history of music and art in Chicago. Once arriving at the AIC, you'll be guided on a highlights tour featuring artwork with Chicago connections! This exclusive tour includes FREE admission to the Art Institute.
Note: Weekly events are subject to change and subject to availability. Many events require registration so make sure to register once you receive the email from HI USA two days prior to arrival or when you arrive to the hostel to reserve your spot. For any events off site, guests are responsible for purchasing their own train or bus tickets, food and drinks.
