HI San Francisco Downtown hosts regular events for guests to enjoy and meet fellow travelers and learn more about the local San Francisco community and culture.

Here is a weekly snap shot of events:

Tuesday:

  • Movie Night -- Come grab a bowl of popcorn, a drink, and some candy as we watch a different movie each week!

Thursday: 

  • Fisherman's Wharf Walking Tour (this tour starts at HI Fisherman's Wharf hostel) --Embark on a walking tour through San Francisco's historic Wharf, where you'll uncover tales of immigrant fishermen, the Gold Rush, and the evolution of the waterfront. Along the way, enjoy hands-on fun at the Musée Mécanique, watch sourdough bread come to life at Boudin Bakery, and capture breathtaking views of Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge. 

Friday:

  • Explore the Famous Hills of San Francisco (this tour starts at HI Fisherman's Wharf hostel) -- Take a walk through some of the most historical neighborhoods of San Francisco. We will climb the three most famous hills in San Francisco, as well as some of the steepest and secret garden-like streets, stairways, see some of the oldest homes in the city, take a stroll through Little Italy, discover the curiosities and the Fortune Cookie Museum in Chinatown, and so much more! 
Tour ends at the Fairmont Hotel in Nob Hill.

Saturday:

  • Yoga at Grace Catheral --Join us for a unique yoga experience in one of San Francisco's most beautiful and grand cathedrals. Enjoy a beginner's class while live music echoes through the hall guided by a professional instructor. Meet in the lobby of HI San Francisco Downtown hostel and we will walk over together.
  • Social Movements of San Francisco Walking Tour -- With a rich history of social movements, San Francisco is a city to be explored beyond its many neighborhoods. Our San Francisco Social Movements Walking Tour navigates through past and current social movements originating in or now profoundly a part of San Francisco. Participants will visit some key locations in the city's downtown neighborhoods where the narrative connects the universal pursuit of personal and group identity dignity with economic concerns, especially land access.
  • Palace to Bridge Walking Tour (this tour starts at the HI Fisherman's Wharf Hostel)-- Join us on a historical walk from the Palace of Fine Arts to the Golden Gate Bridge! Learn about the World's Fair of 1915, walk along the beautiful coastline, meet Yoda, walk past a cemetery for pets of the past, and end at San Francisco's most iconic landmark, the Golden Gate Bridge. This walk will provide you opportunities for beautiful pictures (fog-permitting) and give you some fun facts along the way! 

Sunday:

  • Movie Night -- Come grab a bowl of popcorn, a drink, and some candy as we watch a different movie each week!
  • Bike the Bay Tour (select Sundays) (this tour starts at HI Fisherman's Wharf hostel) -- Join fellow travelers on a guided bike tours of the bay. First stop is Blazing Saddles bike rental company. 

Note: Weekly events are subject to change and subject to availability. Many events require registration so please make sure to register once you receive the email from HI USA two days prior to arrival or when you arrive to the hostel to reserve your spot. For any events off site, guests are responsible for purchasing their own subway or bus tickets, food and drinks.
